Native American Day

Native American Day was established in 1968 by Ronald Reagan to honor Native American people and their contributions to the United Sates. To celebrate the dynamic and creative culture of the First Americans we have added to our online collection a very special and rare selection of pochoir prints of Sioux Indian paintings and drawings . In addition to depicting legends, daily activities, portraits of famous leaders, religious ceremonies the Sioux paintings show in great detail the Battle of the Little Big Horn. These images are known for being the only surviving representations of that first encounter and are also incredible artistic works in their own right. Another collection added especially for this occasion is a selection of portraits of the Blackfeet Indians in vibrant traditional garb created by artist Winold Reiss.
