Mad Men season 7 premiered on April 13th with a series of posters by acclaimed poster artist Milton Glaser. The poster’s psychedelic constellation of colors and art nouveau swirls is set against the familiar silhouette of Don Draper’s back-of-the-head and stretched out arm casually holding a cigarette. Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner spoke with The New York Times about the ad; “There is a dreamlike quality to it, and believe it or not, it is related to the show, and not because it’s psychedelic,” said Mr. Weiner, dressed appropriately for the period, with a buttoned-up suit vest but also a bright pink patterned tie. “That’s not what it’s about. What it’s about is the material and the immaterial world, and that’s what I loved.”
Milton Glaser is a renowned graphic artist who is behind many great images including the famous I ♥ NY logo and the poster for Bob Dylans Greatest Hits Album. In the poster Glaser crowns Dylans head with a technicolour of flowing hair that Weiner describes became a major inspiration for the Mad Men promotional team.
