Norman Rockwell was known for his scenes of idyllic American "culture" and much of his work, including this famous piece, was used to motivate young Americans to join war efforts during World War II. These four representations of freedom necessary to fight for include Christian worshippers, a Thanksgiving scene, and a wholesome nuclear family. It's clear this is meant to appeal to the average American.

Artist: Norman Rockwell
