A rare and important Austrian World War One poster for the Exhibition of Synthetic Materials. Green and black gothic font frames a dystopic futuristic scene depicting ten Entente Power submarines guarding an island intensely populated with chemical plant industry; a plume of pollution fill the sun drenched sky to form an image of a mad scientist concocting his chemicals. During the war enemies blockaded much of German industry and farm land preventing mass agriculture. To combat this the Germans invested in factories that harvested the production of synthetic materials.
