Vintage World War I poster encouraging the purchase of war stamps to help fund the war effort. The poster features a tear-jerking scene: a young child prays by her mother's feet for her big brother, the soldier, to come back from the war safe. Overlayed on a banner of the American flag, this poster elicits the exact patriotic feelings it was designed to.
"Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep. Gold bless my brother gone to war across the seas, in France, so far. Oh, may his fight for Liberty, save millions more than little me from cruel fates or ruthless blast,—and bring him safely home at last.
