In this humourous illustration, a pair of sailors in grey and black sweaters with brown trousers look over at a wealthy couple in freshly cleaned formal attire. This poster belonged to a copy of Le Rire, a French humor magazine or "journal humoristique" which was founded in 1894. The bottom test reads...

Le Marin. - J'te dis qu'elle n'a ni gaillard d'avant , ni gaillard d'arrière... Du vent dans les voiles, et c'est tout!

The sailor. - I'm telling you that she has neither forecastle nor quarterdeck... Wind in the sails, and that's it!
