The Swiss Industries Fair, a national trade show for Swiss products, which evolved into the internationally renowned Art Basel and Baselworld fairs, was first established in 1917 to promote Swiss industry. The watch and jewelry section became a dedicated sub-event in 1931, eventually growing into "Baselworld," one of the world's leading events for watches and jewelry. The 1974 fair marked a period of international expansion, inviting companies from across Europe.
