"Corona Imperialis II. Maximus. The New York Botanical Garden Print Series. Dr. C.J. Trew of Nuremberg (1695-1769) was a wealthy physician and an enthusiastic patron of botany and beautifully illustrated books on botanical subjects. Thanks to him many of the drawings of the 16th century Swiss scientist, Conrad Gesner, were preserved and published. Trew was also responsible for furthering the career of Georg Dionysius Ehret, one of the greatest botanical illustrators of all time. This plate comes from Trew's Hortus Nitidissimus (The Shining Garden) which began to appear in 1750."
