Lekythos Vase Print
Switzerland, 201517 x 11 in (43 x 28 cm)
ID #LBXS-VERTICALB&W-S
The lekythos depicted in this print is a type of ancient Greek vessel for storing oil and is from the book Les Antiquités d'Hancarville. The pottery seen here pays homage to ancient techniques, as you can tell the age of the original engraved vase due to the lack of pouring lip--indicative of an older Greek-style. Sir William Hamilton and Pierre-Francois Hancarville amassed a large collection of Etruscan, Greek, and Roman Antiquities from the Cabinet of the Hon in one series.
The original engravings in the book are rare and highly-coveted. Please note that this page is from the reprinted art book by Madeleine Huwiler and Sebastian Schütze, published in 2015.
Condition: Very good; please note that this is a reproduction.
