Crocus is the genus that produces the product of saffron, which is the dried stigma of the flowers. It is one of the most expensive spices in the world.
This hand-colored copper plate engraving is part of a collection of prints from the book Figures of the Most Beautiful Plants Described in the Gardeners Dictionary, published by Philip Miller in London in 1770. There were multiple contributing illustrators, including Georg Ehret.
