The Amaranthus plants can have medicinal qualities working against tuberculosis and ulcers, and can have antifungal and antiseptic properties as well.
This hand-colored copper plate engraving is part of a collection of prints from the book Figures of the Most Beautiful Plants Described in the Gardeners Dictionary, published by Philip Miller in London in 1770. There were multiple contributing illustrators, including Georg Ehret.
