The anguria plant may also be known as maroon cucumber; the fruit is eaten, and parts of the plant may be used as a natural pesticide.

This hand-colored copper plate engraving is part of a collection of prints from the book Figures of the Most Beautiful Plants Described in the Gardeners Dictionary, published by Philip Miller in London in 1770. There were multiple contributing illustrators, including Georg Ehret.
