This flower may also be known as the Eastern Red Columbine or Wild Red Columbine; it is in the buttercup family and is known for its flowers. Hummingbirds and long-tongued insects feed on its nectar.
This hand-colored copper plate engraving is part of a collection of prints from the book Figures of the Most Beautiful Plants Described in the Gardeners Dictionary, published by Philip Miller in London in 1770. There were multiple contributing illustrators, including Georg Ehret.
