Some asphodelus plants may be used to treat abscesses. The name comes from the Greek word asphodelos, which may be translated as fragrant or fertile.
This hand-colored copper plate engraving is part of a collection of prints from the book Figures of the Most Beautiful Plants Described in the Gardeners Dictionary, published by Philip Miller in London in 1770. There were multiple contributing illustrators, including Georg Ehret.
