Done by German artist Fritz Grotemeyer, this piece originally featured in the NYT Mid-Week Pictorial portrays 'artillery actions which procede and accompany each new offensive movement' of the French and Germans during WWI. As the last sentence of the caption states, "This drawing might easily be an accurate representation of one of the actions now taking place in front of Verdun; it is by just such actions that the great battle is being waged."
