"Colombine, se croit fine! Elle n'a pas pris son billet de Loterie Nationale."

Translation: Colombine, thinks she's fine! She didn't take her National Lottery ticket.

This vibrant purple poster advertises the French national lottery. Depicted are characters from the Commedia dell'arte, a professional theatre troupe from Italy. The cartoonish-style of this poster is absolutely adorable. Loterie Nationale was well known for its cute and quirky posters -- works of art AND advertisements.

Artist - Lefor Openo

Lefor Openo is the pseudonym of two French illustrators, Marie-Claire Lefort and Marie-Francine Oppeneau, who met as art students in Paris and began working together on collaborative pieces in the mid-1950s. They were very prolific, creating a lot of poster art throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and with an impressively wide range of subjects. Their work can be found anywhere from official French government material, films starring Brigitte Bardot, and dolls and dishware based on their illustrations.
