"You Have Not Converted a Man Because You Have Silenced Him (John, Viscount Morley, On Compromise, 1874) / Great Ideas of Western Man...one of a series / Container Corporation of America"
From 1950 to 1975, the Container Corporation of American ran an ad campaign entitled 'Great Ideas of Western Man' where art director Herbert Bayer commissioned many famous illustrators and artists to draw selected quotes from philosophers, writers, scientists, etc. This poster is one of the many examples of what the ad campaign looked like, with a quote from Viscount John Morley (1838-1923) next to an illustration by American realist artist Ben Shahn.
