Vilmorin-Andrieux and Company was an important seed company that got its start from printing these plates in 1850, following the expertise of Philippe Victoire de Vilmorin, a merchant and botanist, and his father-in-law Pierre Andrieux, official botanist to the King of France. The company contributed to the advancement of botany and agronomic knowledge of the time.
