Cyrk posters symbolize an attempt to revive the image of the Polish circus to the general public. They first appeared in 1962, when the state agency that oversaw the circus--Zjednoczone Przedsiębiorstwa Rozrywkowe, or United Entertainment Entreprises (ZPR)--commissioned leading artists to develop a modern approach to the circus poster. This revamping became metaphors and allusions of artistic expression that are still read, studied, and digested because of their humor, linear designs, lettering, and vibrant colors.
