"LE TRÉSOR DE CONQUES / SAINTE-FOY / STATUE D'OR (Xº SIÈCLE) / FRANCE"

One in a series of French travel posters designed to promote tourism, specifically advertising the country's culture, history, and architecture. This black and white poster features a photo of the Trésor de Conques, one of just five great European treasures of goldsmithing from the High Middle Ages, and the only one in France. The statue depicts Saint Foy, a Christian convert who lived in Roman-occupied France. She was condemned to die at age 12 for her refusal to sacrifice to Pagan gods, and revered as a martyr.
