Vintage German poster announcing the acquisition of Max Beckmann's 1919 masterpiece, The Synagogue in Frankfurt am Maim, by the Stadel Museum in Frankfurt. Beckmann's painting depicts the historical synagogue that was later burnt to the ground during Kristallnacht. The Frankfurt museum acquiring a painting of what its Jewish community lost during the travesty of the Third Reich is symbolic of Germany's national healing, part of the city reckoning with its past. 

"Das gemalde ist vom 10 Juni bis 9 Juli 1972 in einer Sonderausstellung des stadelschen Kunstinstituts zu sehen. Burger Frankfurts! Max Beckmann malte 1919 die Synagoge der Israelitischen Gemeinde Frankfurt am ehemaligen Borne-Platz. In der Kristallnacht 1938 wurde sie von den Nationalsozialisten niedergebrannt. Das Gemalde befindet sich jetzt als befristete Leihgabe im Stadel." (The painting can be seen from June 10 to July 9, 1972 in a special exhibition of the Stadel Art Institute. Frankfurt Citizens! In 1919 Max Beckmann painted the synagogue of the Frankfurt Israelite Community on the former Borne-Platz. It was burned down by the National Socialists on Kristallnacht in 1938. The painting is now in the museum as a temporary loan.)
