Known as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, Picasso is most known for co-founding the Cubist movement. Additionally, he is acclaimed for his co-founding of collage work and constructed sculpture. Picasso’s style continued to become more experimental throughout his work. His work can be categorized as periods, much of his work of the late 1910s and early 1920s shows a neoclassical style. His work in the mid 1920s shows Surrealism and a mixture of various other movements. He began as a painter and eventually ended up spending much of his adult life in France focusing on various mediums. Picasso was inspired by the Fauvist work of artists such as Matisse, motivating him to explore more experimental ways of expression. Picasso was almost always compared to Matisse by critics, feuling a rivalry but also pairing the two artists as leaders of the new age of modern art. Passing at the age of 91, Picasso achieved incredible success throughout his active career. He is one of the most notable names in the artistic world, more specifically 20th century artists. His work undoubtedly carries much influence into modern day artistic avenues and styles.
