Plate 39 includes the following note in the book's annex: "ISOLA DELLE VIGNOLE, the Isle of Vines, is said by chroniclers to derive ist name from the vineyards with which it was covered from the earliest Venetian times. It belongs to the Commune of Murano; its population now devotes itself exclusively to Kitchen-gardening."
