Mercantile Library Design Plate Print

U.S.A., c. 1850

14 x 21 in (36 x 53 cm)

ID #LONGERHORIZONTALB&W-1-S

This piece numbers various building design components for the New York City Mercantile Library as part of a series of design plates. The library was founded in 1820 and was originally located at 49 Fulton St, NY. These plates have a higher chance of being for the new location on Lafayette St when the library moved in 1853. Whether these designs were ultimately utilized for the library is undetermined, but this piece provides great insight into mid-19th c. architecture and history of the NYPL branches.
