La Machine a Laver Conord Original Art
France, 196543 x 61 in (109 x 155 cm)
ID #LBDUP-HORIZONTALTABLE-S
Original artwork / maquette by Pierre Fix-Masseau (1905-1994) for Conord, a French washing machine/laundry brand. The red background matches the woman's red hair as the advertisement announces that its machines can do three times the amount of laundry she can do. This poster is a working drawing, meaning it was an exploratory drawing used to brainstorm the end result of what the final poster would look like, and is therefore considered an original art piece by the artist. Castel also used gouache paint which is similar to watercolor in its composition, but is designed to be opaque and dries to a flat finish with intense concentrations of large pigments.
Artist: Pierre Fix-Masseau
Year: c. 1965
Condition: Paper has surface-scratching, creasing, and color loss.
