"FOLKLORE DE FRANCE / LES CHARITÉS DE NORMANDIE / FRANCE"

This black and white poster promotes the folklore of France, featuring a photograph of "les Charités de Normandie", a group of charitons of Heudreville-sur-Eure, in traditional garb. The Norman chariton tradition dates back to the Middle Ages, when brotherhoods would provide assistance during major plague endemics by burying victims. They were dissolved during the French Revolution, gradually reforming from 1850 onwards.

One in a series of French travel posters designed to promote tourism, specifically advertising the country's culture, history, and architecture.
