Montargis Poster

France, c. 1920

25 x 38 in (64 x 97 cm)

ID #LBFRENCHTRAVELTABLE02-Z-21

Vintage French travel poster for the historic village of Montargis. Illustrated front and center on the poster is a recreation of a bronze statue that lies in the courtyard of the Girodet Museum, located in the village center. The bronze statue dramatizes the legend of the "Dog of Montargis," in which a dog avenged the murder of his owner, a courtier to King Charles V, by a jealous knight. The red color scheme of the poster heightens its dramatic tension.
