"MONDALE / FERRARO / FOR / NEW YORK"

Campaign poster for Democratic presidential nominee Walter Mondale, who ran for president in 1984 with Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate. Poster features white and blue text on blue and white background. Union bug present in bottom right.

Mondale was a former vice president (under president Jimmy Carter) and Minnesota senator, while Ferraro had currently been serving in the United States House of Representatives (1979-1985). Had Mondale won the presidential election, Ferraro would have been the first female vice president of the United States. The campaign suffered, in part due to Reagan's popularity and also due to allegations against Ferraro's husband, John Zaccaro. He was accused of past involvement in organized crime, pornography distribution, and campaign contribution violations. Ferraro released family tax returns to the media, but the campaign had already suffered due to the allegations. Ronald Reagan won the election in a landslide victory.
