"Well! Now Let's Tend to Business! / Drawn by J. Campbell Cory"

Even though Harper's Weekly was a Republican-leaning publication at its time, this political cartoon announces how some were dissatisfied with Republican William Howard Taft's administration. The news headlines thrown across the floor under Uncle Sam reflect the most prominent issues of the time regarding Socialist nominee Eugene Debs, the Standard Oil scandal, the chaos of the Roosevelet administration, Senator Joseph Foraker’s apathy towards the Brownsville incident, and other negative aspects of the current Taft admin.

Harper's Weekly was an American political magazine that ran from 1857 until 1916. Famous political cartoonists such as Thomas Nast, Winslow Homer, and Granville Perkins all contributed an array of work to the publication. It was the most widely read journal in the United States at its peak.
