"L'HOTEL-DIEU DE BEAUNE / (BOURGOGNE) / FRANCE"

This black and white poster promotes the Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune in Beune, Bourgogne. Beaune is the wine capital of Burgundy, and the annual wine auction held at the Hôtel-Dieu is the primary wine auction of France. The building, a notable example of 15th-century Burgundian architecture, is a former charitable almshouse, having served as a hospital and refuge for the people of Beaune (the majority of whom were destitute). Its services are now provided in modern hospital buildings. Poster features a photo of the hospice, and a small map of France at the bottom left with its location marked.

One in a series of French travel posters designed to promote tourism and travel by train, specifically advertising the country's beautiful historic monuments accessible by train.
