The crown imperial, alternatively the Kurdish tulip, is in the lily family and native to the Anatolian plateau of the Middle East. The plant produces bulbous orange flowers.

This hand-colored copper plate engraving is part of a collection of prints from the book Figures of the Most Beautiful Plants Described in the Gardeners Dictionary, published by Philip Miller in London in 1770. There were multiple contributing illustrators, including Georg Ehret.
