The Battle of Wilson's Creek is depicted here, and is notably the first major battle of the Trans-Mississippi Theater of the American Civil War. It is also when Nathaniel Lyon was killed--the first Union general to die in the war.
Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper ran from 1855 until 1922 and covered American politics. It was later renamed to be Leslie's Weekly, and is considered to be the first successful pictorial newspaper in the United States.
