The Hyacinth plant is known for its colorful pink and purple blossoms in the springtime. The plant was named for Hyacinthus, the Spartan prince of remarkable beauty and a lover of the sun god Apollo.
This hand-colored copper plate engraving is part of a collection of prints from the book Figures of the Most Beautiful Plants Described in the Gardeners Dictionary, published by Philip Miller in London in 1770. There were multiple contributing illustrators, including Georg Ehret.
