A travel poster advertising tourism to the West French African region. France began the colonization of this region in the mid-1800s and left in the 1960s but never quite severed its ties with many of the countries. The former countries of French West Africa included: Mauritania, Senegal, French Sudan (Mali), French Guinea (Guinea), Ivory Coast, Upper Volta (Burkina Faso), Dahomey (Benin) and Niger.
