A travel poster advertising tourism to the West French African region. France began colonization of this region in the mid 1800s and left in the 1960s but never quite severed its ties with many of the countries. The former countries of French West Africa included: Mauritania, Senegal, French Sudan (Mali), French Guinea (Guinea), Ivory Coast, Upper Volta (Burkina Faso), Dahomey (Benin) and Niger.
