A break from the famous Martincho
Francisco Goya also did a series of bullfighting prints showing the well-known bullfighter Martincho, who is featured here up against a pouncing bull.
"La Nueva Lidia" refers to "toro de lidia," or a Spanish bullfighting bull. This beautiful print is part of a collection of Spanish bullfighting works showing the "historia del toreo," that were part of a periodical. It gives viewers a look into the sport of bullfighting we see today.
