MAC-Assouline Queen of Spades Poster
USA c. 200342 x 30 in (107 x 76 cm)
ID #BOX2-SPADE&CLUBS-T-36
This photograph is the QUEEN OF SPADES
PLEASE NOTE: The four dots visible are reflections of the light. At the top, there are two Velcro stickers.
The Queen of Spades features a full-body shot of a person painted entirely in black and dark blue, with bright red lips, likely an intentional comparison to racist depictions of Black people commonly found in visual and performance art.
"The Deck of Cards was conceived by Assouline, who were inspired by MAC Cosmetics' irreverent imaging and makeup artistry. Working with the MAC Creative Team, the idea grew as some of the world's most renowned designers, musicians and artists created unique body designs that became this provocative deck of playing cards. The response was phenomenal. All of the designs submitted were not only original and creative but reflected the individual personalities of the well-known participants." Released as a deck of standard-size playing cards and later as a book collection of the images, portions of proceeds from sales benefited the MAC Aids Fund.
