Also known as Syrian bean-caper, this is an invasive plant in California. The red and white blossoms add a nice touch to an otherwise simple plant.
This hand-colored copper plate engraving is part of a collection of prints from the book Figures of the Most Beautiful Plants Described in the Gardeners Dictionary, published by Philip Miller in London in 1770. There were multiple contributing illustrators, including Georg Ehret.
