The plant depicted here is now called Calycanthus floridus, and may have a small variety of medicinal uses, including as a disinfectant.
This hand-colored copper plate engraving is part of a collection of prints from the book Figures of the Most Beautiful Plants Described in the Gardeners Dictionary, published by Philip Miller in London in 1770. There were multiple contributing illustrators, including Georg Ehret.
