Two lovers are seen quarrelling in this piece by August Roubille. It was originally published in Le Rire, a French humor magazine that ran from 1894 until 1971. Le Rire found commercial success as Parisians started becoming more interested in arts, culture, and politics. It also featured famous artists such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Georges Goursat, and Leonetto Cappiello, amongst others.
