This satirical illustration by Caran d'Ache was originally published in Le Rire in April of 1902. Le Rire was a French humor magazine that ran from 1894 until 1971. The publication found commercial success as Parisians started becoming more interested in arts, culture, and politics. It also featured famous artists such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Georges Goursat, and Leonetto Cappiello, amongst others.
