Title: Dove, 1961

Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is one of the most well-known artists of the 20th-century, and perhaps even of all time. His revolutionary work is so expansive it is often categorized into different time periods such as the Blue Period (1901-1904), the Rose Period (1904-1906), and Synthetic Cubism (1912-1919), amongst others. At the time of his death, there were over 45,000 unsold works in his estate, with painting being his most important and substantial medium. Many critics tout Picasso as one of the greatest artist to ever live, and his art has become some of the most expensive to be auctioned off today. His cultural impact on the art world will never be forgotten, with many museums, galleries, and private exhibitions holding his most significant works.

Description: A very recognizable piece of Picasso’s expansive catalogue, Dove depicts its namesake carrying an olive branch as a representation of peace. On top of being a wonderful piece of art, it is culturally and historically relevant, with Picasso creating the image to advertise the Congrés national du movement de la paix held in France in 1962.
