Published by arrangement with R/Illustration in Paris, this New York Times Mid-Week Pictorial from May 11, 1916 highlights the brutal conflict from Verdun. The Battle of Verdun was the longest fight in WWI and resulted in an incredibly high number of casualties. The NY Times Mid-Week Pictorial no longer runs, but was used to deliver news to the general public before mass visual media became available and popular.
