Anschütz Kriselkompass Poster

Germany, c. 1920s

14 x 11 in (36 x 28 cm)

"Anschütz / Kreiselkimpass / Ohne Magnete"

A kriselkompass (gyrocompass) is a compass that aligns itself with the meridian, making it a bound top tethered gyroscope that requires 2-4 hours for proper alignment at sea. Since they work independently of the earth's magnetic field, they show the true north direction. This poster advertises Hermann Anschütz-Kaempfe's patenting of the technical principle behind the gyrocompass in 1904.
