Bird of Paradise L. Nesbitt Print #01
U.S.A., c. 197023 x 35 in (58 x 89 cm)
ID #FF18D-Z-PK4
Original vintage poster by photorealist artist Lowell Nesbitt. The bird of paradise's unique shape adds a sense of movement to the print.
Lowell Nesbitt was born in 1933 Baltimore, Maryland. He first found success in his home state, with a solo show at the Baltimore Museum of Art in 1958. It was not until Nesbitt moved to New York, however, that his career really took off the ground. Nesbitt was prominent in the 70s New York art world, and his West Village studio (dubbed the "Old Stable") was a gathering ground for some of the decade's best American artists: Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, and many others. Nesbitt is best known for his flower prints and paintings that isolate larger-than-life flowers on monochromatic backgrounds. Today, Nesbitt's work is held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Detroit Institute of Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and others.
