"Streets and Canals in Venice 24"

Plate 24 includes the following note in the book's annex: "THE RIO or CANALE CANONICA, took its name from the residences of the Canons which were built, and still exist in that locality. But the most important edifice on this Canal is the palace seen on the right, once the property of the Trevisan and Cappello families and generally believes to be after designs by the brohers Lombardo. It was purchased by the famous Bianca Cappello, Grand Duchess of Tuscany, in 1577, and given by her to her brother Vittore in 1578, but the story that she herself resided there is absolutely without foundation."
