"Streets and Canals in Venice 76"

Black and white plate from 'Streets and Canals in Venice and in the Islands of the Lagoons'.

Plate 76 includes the following note in the book's annex: "EMBANKMENT IN THE ISLAND OF MURANO. - This island, so reowned for its manufacture of ornamental glass-ware and beads, once contained 16 churches, splendid palaces and celebrated gardens. It is now almost exclusively inhabited by people employed in the various glass-works. Its embankments or quays are very animated, especially on Sundays and Saints' days."
