Black and white plate from 'Streets and Canals in Venice and in the Islands of the Lagoons'.
Plate 94 includes the following note in the book's annex: "S. TOMASO DEI BORGOGNONI. - An ancient and renowned Abbey, under the patronage of the Patrician family Trevisan. It was first occupied, in 1190 by the regular Canons of S. Augustine, who were soon after replaced by Cistercian monks from Burgundy, from which it takes its name. It began to decline in 1668, when these monks were transferred to S. Christopher's, in Venice, leaving only a monk or two as a care takers. The fine edifice therefore went to ruin, and at present serves as a powder-magazine."
