"Streets and Canals in Venice 99"

Plate 99 includes the following note in the book's annex: "TORCELLO. - So much has already been said of this island that it is unnecessary to say more. The engraving represents Torcello as it appeared at the end of last century, the fine Bell-tower as it is at present, the cathedral built in the VIIth century, rebuilt in 1008, and restored, especially the exterior, at the end of the XVIIth; the church of S. Fosca of the IXth century and many other edifices which have now almost disappeared."
