Black and white plate from 'Streets and Canals in Venice and in the Islands of the Lagoons'.
Plate 17 includes the following note in the book's annex: "RIVO DEI VETRAI and PONTE di MEZZO, Glass-blowers'. Quay and Middle Bridge in the island of Murano. — The Glass Manufactories formerly belonging to the Berroviero, Ballarin and Seguso families were once numerous here. The Obizzi and the Sodeci, celebrated makers of mirrors and crystal ware, formerly inhabited the house with columns seen on the quay to the right. Marbles sculptured in Byzantine style were employed in the construction of this building which is attributed to the XI or XII century."
