Black and white plate from 'Streets and Canals in Venice and in the Islands of the Lagoons'.
Plate 98 includes the following note in the book's annex: "S. CLEMENTE. - Pietro Garilesso built, in 1131, a hospital and monastery on this island which afterward came into the possession of the Patriarchs of grado from whom it was quired by the regular Canons of the Carità. In 1444 it was ceded to the Camaldolesi of Rua. In 1834 it was converted into a Lunatic Asylum for females, and such it still remains."
